The Broken Islands - 4 Day West Coast Camping Tour

The Broken Islands of Barclay Sound off the west coast of Vancouver Island is one of our favourite kayaking destinations. This sheltered cluster of picturesque islands and islets is a kayaking paradise, with white sandy beaches and quiet lagoons, aquamarine waters and mysterious sea caves. The calm, crystal clear waters are home to porpoises, river otters, sea-lions, migrating Grey whales and over 200 species of seabirds. Tidal pools abound with brilliant sea-life...sea anemones, colourful sea stars, seaweeds and types of coral. Enormous colonies of Stellar and California sea lions congregate in the summer months on the outer islands and their bellowing roars can be heard from miles around. Paddling amongst and viewing these magnificent creatures is a wonderful experience. As well, the area is noted for incredible fishing (snapper, salmon, cod and even small co-operative halibut have ended up in our frying pan) and the sunsets are amazing! A perfect sea kayak tour for both beginner and experienced paddler. All this and more make this expedition an outstanding adventure for the "wild at heart".
